What is a laminating pouch and how it works:
Judging by the name, the laminating pouch is a pouch used in lamination. Besides helping in preservation often documents, the laminating pouch also helps in strengthening the pliability of the documents.
What to look for while buying a laminating pouch:
The laminating pouch is used with a laminator and the document to be laminated. When you buy your laminating pouch, you have to buy it according to the size of the laminator. This is because the laminator is size specific and works with laminating pouches that are equal or smaller than the laminator.
You also have to take the thickness of the laminating pouch into consideration when buying it. The thickness of a laminating pouch is measured by ‘mil’ increments and is sold in thicknesses between 3 to 10 mil. A mil is basically one thousandth of an inch. When using the laminating pouch, it is important that you first trim any excess material before laminating.
Some laminating pouches have embedded holograms to ensure its authenticity, while others have a magnetic strip on the back of the card. These enhancements provide diversity in laminating pouches so that employers can create authentic copies of their employee IDs. There is no limit to the number of holograms and magnetic strips that are embedded in a laminating pouch.
There are different types of laminating pouches available today like the matte laminating pouches that not only provide protection, but also an elegant writable surface on the laminated product. The matte laminating pouches are found in two styles; matte/matte laminating pouches with matte coating on both sides of the document and the matte/clear pouches that have a glossy coating on a side and a writable matte coating on the other.
What to avoid in laminating pouches:
Don’t buy thick laminating pouches as they are most often used in industrial applications. And avoid laminating pouches without rounded corners as this makes it a bit difficult to laminate.
