Holiday Deals: Mexico’s Exciting Latin Festivals
The Latin countries of Europe and South America seem to be blessed, enjoying great food and longer lifespans due to healthier diets. Any European holidaymakers that have spent their summers in the major regional cities of southern Europe will also know that the good weather means popular street festivals are common, from Tomatina and the running of the bulls in Spain to the Santo Antonio parade and neighbourhood street parties in Lisbon. Holiday deals to Mexico open up similarly exciting opportunities for visitors spending some well deserved time on the Caribbean or Pacific coasts.
Holidaymakers that want to take part in some of Mexico’s fun festivals can also choose from a heart stoppingly scary Bull Run in the small town of Huamantla. The Bull Run is one of many festivals that are in honour of a saint so holidaymakers should expect to see some flower throwing and traditional dress before the real fun starts. For holidaymakers that would prefer not to dice with death, and pay huge travel insurance fees there are some more festivals that will prove to be far more tourist friendly. European winter time is best for booking last minute holidays to Mexico as the high season runs from December through to April.
For holidaymakers travelling to the Caribbean coast and the classy resorts around Cancun the high season is becoming ever more popular and younger British holidaymakers are increasingly heading over to join their American cousins on Spring Break towards the latter stages of the season. Cancun caters mostly to tourists so may be found wanting when it comes to traditional festivals but on the upside holidaymakers can celebrate Christmas and other European holidays while they are away. During the Christmas period there are torchlight processions in the days leading up to December 25th as worshippers head to midnight mass. Holidaymakers that are in Mexico on the 1st of November can celebrate the Mexican version of Halloween – Dias de los Muertas – the Day of the Dead. Locals build shrines to relatives who have passed away and enjoy family picnics in the local parks before heading to remembrance ceremonies, a fascinating insight into local customs.
For those who are in the capital celebrating festivals the city offers plenty of other distractions over the course of a stay. Culture loving holidaymakers enjoying late holiday deals to Mexico City have the opportunity to visit one of the world’s best museums, Mexico’s National Museum of Anthropology. The museum showcases a number of priceless artefacts including two of the well renowned Olmec heads, the giant stone sculptures that can be found on the Gulf Coast.
